My Golden Conversation Triangle

Dear readers

During my business life, I had the opportunity to follow a lot of great seminars such as; Crucial Conversations, Crucial Accountability, Influencer from the Vital Smart Group, NLP sessions, Conversational Intelligence of Judith Glaser, Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching, Anthony Robbins seminars, and many others.

From all these sessions I learned, that it is key to express yourself in an effective manner, certainly when emotions are running high at moments you disagree with others. Apparently, once our reptilian brain has started, it is less easy to regain control over our emotions and thoughts.

In a lot of cases, we become one with the discussion topic. If the other party disagrees and states some counter arguments or facts we are less able to make the split between the person and the topic we are discussing. We feel like being attacked.

I always had a big struggle with it. This has put my mind on thinking on how to solve this issue. I asked myself “What can I do to separate the person from the discussion topic?”.

One day I read about a Golden Triangle in a book on Sales, this gave me the idea to see a Golden Triangle when I discuss with somebody, whatever the topic. As you all know a triangle has three corners A, B, C.

So today when I discuss with somebody I see the other person on corner A, myself on corner B and the topic of discussion on corner C. Viewing it in this way helps me to separate the topic of discussion from the person with whom I am holding the discussion. It lowers my reptilian brain activity and most of the time we get better along. Communicating in this way increases the outcome.

I wish you a great experience with what I call now “My Golden Conversation Triangle” use it to your advantage and you can call it "Your Golden Conversational Triangle".
